HOW WE MAKE GRANTS

  • The Foundation supports organisations that:

    • Share our values and are aligned with our objectives.

    • Have strong track records in implementation.

    • Demonstrate clear purpose and strategy linked to a specific constituency/target group.

    • Actively seek to become more effective, accountable and sustainable.

    • Actively seek to transform and grow their organisation, and the ecosystem in which they operate, including the professional development of their staff.

    • Adopt innovative approaches to programming.

    • Address systemic weaknesses in our thematic areas.

    • Are committed to transparency, active partnership, and sharing learning and insight.

  • The Foundation offers funding through two grant-making programmes. For organisations to qualify for funding, they must be focused on the themes relevant to that specific programme:

    Civil Society

    Themes for 2022 applications:

    • Strengthening governance

    • Promoting active citizenship

    • Development of independent, high-quality media

    • Feminism & Gender

    Innovation and Entrepreneurship

    Themes for 2022 applications:

    • IT skills development

    • Developing new learning solutions

    • Promoting and supporting entrepreneurship

    • The Foundation invites applications for funding primarily through a yearly ‘Open Call’. The Foundation may also make other specific opportunities available throughout the year depending on the current strategic priorities and needs assessment for the Foundation’s regions of focus.

    • Eligibility and application criteria vary from year to year, and the exact amount and duration of funding is specific to each programme. Please keep an eye on our website and social media channels so you do not miss any announcements.

    • Applications are made online through the Foundation’s website, and usually follow a 2 stage process for our larger grants (i.e. Stage 1: Concept Note, Stage 2: Proposal).

PLEASE NOTE: we do not accept applications for funding outside of our specific funding calls!
