Y Care International
Y Care International is the relief and development agency of the YMCA movement – the leading global movement for youth empowerment. For over 30 years, Y Care has helped tens of thousands vulnerable young people free themselves from poverty, improve their well-being and unleash their skills. Y Care believes employment and jobs are the best routes out of poverty – it helps young women and men learn the skills to secure jobs or start their own businesses as a sustainable way to fight poverty in some of the poorest countries in the world.
In 2017-18 the Asfari Foundation is supporting Y Care International’s work with young marginalised women in Palestine to increase their employability skills and create small businesses. This project includes the scaling up of a pilot mentoring programme through which young female business graduates from Bethlehem University provide technical training and mentoring to new female business owners (specifically with startups). As a result of Asfari Foundation support, 80 female entrepreneurs will gain enhanced technical skills, helping their businesses become more profitable. In the long term, this project will improve women’s participation in the business world, working to shift attitudes towards working women in Palestine.
